Nov 8, 2012 - El Dorado Irrigation District Flume

This weeks hike was along the El Dorado Irrigation District Flume near Fresh Pond, Hwy 50.We accessed the flume (Elevation 4000ft) from the road across from Pacific House. The hike was relatively level since it followed the flume. Although we started our hike in a slight mist, the weather  cooperated, and on a few occasions, the warm sun broke through. The trail crossed several canyons on elevated structures with metal grates and hand rails, so heavy work gloves were in order. Lunch time was special because we built a roaring fire and found some good material to build some benches. Just sitting around a warm fire, eating lunch and telling Geezer stories was very special! The afternoon rains only arrived as we were leaving the parking lot, so a stop at McDonald's in Placerville for hot coffee and apple pies made our day. This weeks photos tell the story much better.
