March 17, 2011 - Bassi Falls Snowshoe Hike

This week, eight Geezers (plus Loren Gray's grandson) attempted to snowshoe into Bassi Falls. The hike was about 2 1/2 miles into the falls, around 5 miles for the round trip. There was significant snow depth. The weather was beautiful during the entire adventure. Some of us stopped just short of the falls as the constant rise in elevation of over 400ft helped build a hearty appetite for our traditional NOON lunch!! Bassi Falls is north of Rte 50, east of Union Valley Reservoir at about the 5200' elevation. Parking was on the Ice House Road. There were a few stumbles here and there (note the photos) and the writer classed this hike as moderate to difficult due to the constant climbing from the parking lot and the snow depths. Others thought it less strenuous but I'm sure we'll all ache a little on Friday morning. We finished the day as usual at McDonald's in Placerville for ice cream!
Thanks to nearly everyone for the selected photos. Rod's photos will be on a seperate blog as we have too many to publish this week.
Post Blog - In answer to many questions it was Roland and Rod who fell off the log going accross a small stream!
