May 3, 2012 - Annual San Francisco Bike Ride

This years annual ride from San Fransisco Pier 1 and back to Larkspur Ferry, attracted 14 Geezerboyz, although Dick Gray is still considered a Rookie Geezer as his photo shows. Note the black trash bag for rain gear. I think he bought that from REI so he can return it.
Unlike prior years, we faced uncertain weather conditions, and as you can see from the photos, we experienced sun, wind and light (soaking type) rain. The last photo was take exactly one week earlier, so for the new guys, this is what it's usually like, and Geezers don't lie! We left the church parking lot on time at 6:30am and reached Larkspur Ferry at 8:30am, in good time to figure out those complicated ticket vending machines, load our bikes on board the ferry and find a warm spot inside the main cabin. Some brave souls stayed outside for the entire 30 minute trip across the bay. Once off the boat, we set off down an unusually quiet Embarcadaro to Pier 39 for hot coffee, chocolate, tea and crispy cream donuts. At that time, the sun was shining. Lunch was in a local park in Sausolito, right next to the waters edge. On a warmer day, I'm sure Rich and Glen would have taken a dip! Even though we had inclement weather, we were grateful for the wind at our backs, especially on Golden Gate Bridge. We survived the ups and loved the downs and arrived back at our cars in good time to beat the city traffic out of town. We even had time for MacDonald's ice cream in Fairfield. It was a great trip with no complaints and no incidents to report. Our ride in Tahoe will be August 2nd so mark your calendars for that day. Thanks to John, Sherm and Roland for this weeks photos. On a personal note, I will be in the UK for the next four Geezer events so there will be no blog, but still check your email as I may blog our group trip from the UK.

Keeping warm!

  1. It was a great day, inspite of the misty rain in Marin county. Beuford's sandwich was AWESOME!! No wonder he got it all over his face.
