Sept 13, 2012 - Twin & Island Lakes

This week was another new adventure for nine Geezers in the Tahoe Desolation area at elevations from 7000' to 8200'. We hiked from Wrights Lake (north of Hwy 50) to Island Lake with a lunch stop at Twin Lakes. The hike to Twin Lakes was five miles round trip but with the exception of the first half mile, it was all climbing. Following our lunch stop, six geezers decided to climb a further .06/mile to Island Lake while three of the group remained behind to take a well earned snooze. I don't know what the attraction was to advance further up the mountain, (particularly following lunch), as it was another hour or so round trip. Perhaps it was some "Geezerettes" we met at the trail head who overtook our group on the way up? Knowing our guys, I'm sure they didn't want to be outdone by the ladies!
Overall, there was as least 1200' of climbing and descending. John rated this hike as on the strenuous side of moderate, but not strenuous! If this two plus hours, of climbing wasn't strenuous, I haven't yet figured out what strenuous is!
